ABSTRACT

Objective: This study sought to analyze whether service leadership predicts work performance on municipal employees in the province of San Martin - Peru, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Material(s) and Method(s):The design is non-experimental, cross-sectional, and predictive. We analyzed data of 424 municipal employees from the districts: Morales, Tarapoto, and Banda Shilcayo, aged between 20 and 65 years, of both sexes. The instruments used were: Service Leadership Scale (ELSVA), created by Dennis,Winston, Page, and Wong (2003);and Individual Work Performance Scale, created by Koopmans et al., (2014), both scales validated by Gabini and Salessi (2016). Result(s) and Conclusion(s): The beta coefficients indicate that leadership (predictor variable) significantly predicted work performance (beta =,512, p < .01);it is inferred that service leadership qualities of employees predict the effectiveness of workers in their respective job positions.Copyright © 2023, Accion Medica S.A.. ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemics required the countries to take decisions rapidly. Consequently, the National Institute of Health (INS) developed a series of documents of scientific evidence synthesis according to the Ministry of Health's requirements. Based on these reports, the INS developed recommendations to update normative documents related to COVID-19's management. This article describes the construction of a new methodology applied by the INS to synthesize scientific evidence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, it emphasizes the efforts and strategies used to guarantee the methodological quality and the implementation of the GRADE approach. Finally, it provides a short reflection on the limitations and challenges of using evidence to design national public policies in the future. © 2022 Publicado por Cuerpo Médico Hospital Nacional Almanzor Aguinaga Asenjo.

ABSTRACT

The dynamics of all social, economic, trade, health, transportation, hotel, etc. activities. that were developed in all the societies of the world, have had to be reformulated due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Social distancing, restrictions on meetings, contact with other people have affected us all, leading us to an unthinkable situation and therefore we have been forced to use various virtual applications to help us cope with this complicated scenario. In this sense, the educational field at all levels has also had to rethink and adapt the contents to virtuality. The objective of this study was to conceptualize, characterize and describe the importance of virtual education and virtual learning environments in university students in times of the Covid-19 pandemic, based on the review of scientific articles based on the Redalyc, Dialnet and Scielo for the last five years. Made with a descriptive approach, using data collection. Likewise, it was based on the systematic review, using tables for the search, organization and selection of articles, as well as the PRISMA method that may be used by other researchers. The results were 15 articles. In addition, the importance that education and virtual environments have been beneficial for the learning of university students is evident, even more so in times of pandemic. ABSTRACT

Engaging diverse groups of older adults is essential to addressing health disparities. In this presentation, we will describe how we used our research team's networks and knowledge of the target population to engage key stakeholders in our KAP project. We will address our partnerships with clergy, NGO staff and administrators, housing authorities, colleagues at Puerto Rican universities, and older adults who serve as informal community and institutional gatekeepers. We will discuss how these partnerships facilitated our ability to identify and access study sites and participants;conduct telephone and in-person interviews;ensure data quality through training and monitoring;and, assure safety through adherence to COVID-19 protocols. Finally, we will describe key cultural and ethical issues of conducting research with older adults through community partnerships during a pandemic. The presentation has implications for developing beneficial partnerships with local community leaders and enhancing the representation of diverse groups of older adults in research.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic drastically impacted lifestyles. The necessary strategy of isolation to avoid contagion led to an increase in psychosocial risks in children, adolescents and their families, such as negative coping with stress, negligent parenting practices, domestic violence, substance abuse, among others. Objective: To determine school stress in students during COVID-19 quarantine. Methods: The research was developed under a quantitative approach;cross-sectional, observational, analytical. A total of 1395 adolescents participated. For data collection, a Google form was used to determine school stress, based on an instrument validated in Colombia. Results: Among the most frequent mental health diagnoses, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was found, followed by anxiety disorder and depression. Ninety-two percent of the participants reported concern about their academic performance, likewise 60.2% reported feeling nervous when talking to their parents about their school performance and 62.5% reported feeling nervous about not understanding what was explained in class. Conclusions: It was found that a large part of the participants showed symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress due to the uncertainty of the pandemic. Likewise, a high perception of alteration of daily routines, greater stress due to academic performance and an improvement in the affective family bond was also evidenced. © 2021. ABSTRACT

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic is a public health emergency that has substantially modified medical education from face-to-face to online teaching modalities. Objective: To evaluate academic satisfaction before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in a sample of university students of health sciences in Peru. Material and Methods: Observational, cross-sectional, and comparative study. An ad hoc sociodemographic form was used;the following questions were included: How would you rate your academic performance at the university? Had you taken any virtual courses before the pandemic? Do you have internet connection at home? Did you fail any course last semester? What is your occupation? The Academic Satisfaction Scale (ASE), which was composed of eight items, was also used. All the questions were asked using a form that was valid on the virtual platform of the university for two weeks and applied in June 2019 (first evaluation) and August 2020 (second evaluation). Results: Among the sociodemographic variables evaluated, the poor quality of internet connectivity (Cohen’s d = -0,65) and self-assessment of performance as very high (Cohen’s d = -0,72) show moderate differences between 2019 and 2020. Conclusions: The academic satisfaction among health sciences students during the COVID-19 health emergency change considerably when the Internet connectivity is poor and the students evaluate themselves as high achievers, variables that can be considered when designing curricular strategies for health sciences students. © 2021 Universidad de Ciencias Medicas de La Hab. ABSTRACT

Introduction: The repercussions of the COVID 19 pandemic have impacted society in general and medical education in particular, so medical schools have put into practice the creativity of both managers and teachers to deal with this situation with the best strategies that positively affect the training of future doctors. Objective: To compare the perception that students have, according to semester, about the usefulness of online classes in undergraduate medicine at a private school in the south of the State of Tamaulipas in Mexico. Method: Online survey through Google Forms to 261 students from semesters 1 to 8, from a private medical school in southern Tamaulipas, selected through a stratified sampling. As the main variable of the study, the perception of the usefulness of online classes was considered. Results: 53% of the students do not agree that the online modality is useful for the development of procedural knowledge and 80% consider that face-to-face classes are better than online classes. Conclusions: The online modality is not useful for the development of the procedural component of clinical competence, and it is useful only in some subjects of the medical career. ABSTRACT

Introduction. On March 5 2020, the first case of COVID-19 was reported and on March 16, order of quarantine was issued which resulted in interruption of academic activities. Objective. Determine the seroprevalence and risk factors associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection in undergraduate students of the school of medicine in a public university. Methods. Descriptive cross-sectional study by means of a serology survey to a representative sample of the population of undergraduate students of a health sciences school using a rapid test to detect antibodies IgG, IGM or both in a total blood sample by digital punction. Results. On August 2021, 24,92% (IC95% 18,2-33,0) of students of health sciences tested positive for antibodies anti SARS-CoV-2, 21,2% for IgG, 2,3% for IGM and 0,8% for both;75,08% (IC95% 66,9-82,0) tested negative antibodies. Conclusions. The seroprevalence in students was not different from the seroprevalence in general population. Therefore, in order to restart presential academic activities this population must be vaccinated and other nonpharmacological requirements should be accomplished for prevention and control of the pandemics such as natural ventilation of classrooms, use of personal protection equipment – masks, hand washing and keeping physical distancing.

ABSTRACT

Worldwide, there are long queues outside educational institutions, causing them to become infected with COVID-19 due to the agglomeration of people, which generates great consternation and misunderstanding among parents during the enrollment process. Therefore, the objective of this research is to implement a web platform to optimize the enrollment process in educational institutions, taking into consideration the availability, integrity and confidentiality of the information. The system development methodology was divided into 3 phases. Start;The problem, the functional and non-functional requirements were defined, the technologies to be used for development were evaluated and the system prototypes were designed. Development;The Frontend was designed by programming the functional requirements and the architecture of the database was developed in the Backend. Transition;A feedback was made correcting errors by users through a usability test. In this sense, it was possible to carry out the registration process in a virtual way, complying with social distancing, preventing citizen insecurity, optimizing processes in a fast and efficient way, preserving information security. The web platform made it possible to reduce the digital gap for the use of information technologies (IT) between the institution and parents, reducing educational inequality with an inclusive education, taking a step towards digital transformation in an equitable and transparent way.

ABSTRACT

The often synanthropic long-tailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) is listed in Appendix II of CITES and was recently updated to Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. The update was highly anticipated, as it can have wide-reaching implications for long-tailed macaque conservation and trade. Long-tailed macaques have suffered from intensive capture for biomedical research since the 1960s. From 2008-2019, at least 450,000 live long-tailed macaques, and over 700,000 "specimens" from an unknown number of individuals were part of this trade, with over 50,000 termed as wild-caught. These official trade numbers exclude laundering of wild-caught individuals as captive bred, harvesting for breeding center upkeep, their capture for the pet trade, hunting for consumption, and culling due to human-macaque conflicts. With Fooden's population estimate of 3 million long-tailed macaques in Southeast Asia in 2006, this is likely not sustainable. In some areas, they have already been extirpated because of this trade, as detected by a survey of 200 km of suitable habitat in Cambodia in 2008. Long-tailed macaques are one of the most geographically widely dispersed and adaptable primate species. However, their flexibility and preference for the forest edge draws them to anthropogenic habitats, where their visibility results in assumptions of overabundance, as was demonstrated on Java in 2009 and 2017. Long-tailed macaques face many threats, and there is an urgent need for systematic demographic and range surveys across Southeast Asia, as well as investigation into local, regional and national perceptions of long-tailed macaques. Current conservation foci should include dynamic widespread synanthropic species, such as long-tailed macaques, which are often targets of intensive trade and other threats. Insights from such studies may be critical for effective conservation and management in the 21st century. © 2021 Global Wildlife Conservation. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: During COVID19 Dm1 patients without receiving medical assistance, in this context, the use of telemedicine became necessary to maintain continuity of treatment and to cope with the situation. Objective: To evaluate the utility of telemedicine in the adherence of the treatment of patients with DM1 in Peru, during COVID19. Method: A prospective study was conducted in 25 patients with DM1 in the context of COVID19. The patients came from hospitals, and private clinics in Lima Peru. Patients received clinical evaluation by a pediatric endocrinologist through the zoom platform, messages by wsp weekly with parental consent. Monitoring of blood glucose levels, HbA1c,insulin regimens, carbohydrate control, and warning signs during COVID19 was evaluated. Results: there were 17 girls and 8 boys, an average age of 12 years, an average debut age of 9 years, an average time of illness of 4 years and the average insulin dose was 1UI/kg/day. The average HbA1c was 7.45%. 36% had proteinuria. Before the start of the intervention, the mean of glycemic controls was 4 v/day, achieving that 90% reach an average of 6v/day glycemic controls at the cut of the data analysis. 8% had poor metabolic control despite follow-up, we observed changes in attitudes and control of the disease by COVID19,Mental health issues were addressed in the context of a pandemic, as part of the comprehensive package provided. Due to COVID19, not all the patients included in the study had HbA1c values subsequent to controls and telemedicine follow-up. 20% of the patients were carbohydrate-free and 76% of the patients had suboptimal glycemic control. Conclusion: From the teleconsultation strategy, better adherence to treatment was obtained, achieving 90% had glycemic control at an average of 6v/day. The patients presented greater commitment to disease management despite the limitations of COVID19. Telemedicine has proven to be a useful intervention to improve adherence and metabolic control of with DM1 patients.
